Greater psychological distress has been associated with poorer cancer survival. However, the mechanisms linking psychological distress and cancer survival are unknown. Furthermore, many population-based studies show that low socioeconomic status (SES) augments the effects of psychological distress on all-cause and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality. However, it is unknown whether SES moderates the association between distress and cancer survival. Therefore, this PhD aims to elucidate (1) the biobehavioural mechanisms linking psychological distress and cancer survival, and (2) the moderating role of SES in the association between psychological distress and cancer survival.
