Healthy Escapism and Wellbeing The Role of Gaming During Difficult Life Circumstances

Recent research has highlighted the importance of gaming during difficult life circumstances and how it can be utilised as a coping strategy. However, there is a paucity of research which explores the role of healthy escapism and its beneficial outcomes. Escapism within games research has typically referred to a negative association. This proposed study will focus on the role of healthy escapism during adverse life experiences and investigating when and how it can contribute to greater wellbeing? Upon completion, the research will provide further insights into positive benefits of gaming and help develop guidelines on facilitating healthy escapism for players. Finally, this study will seek to examine the application of gaming for psychological interventions in a non-clinical population.
