This project will bioarchaeologically investigate changing individual and collective identities among a single cemetery population from ancient Corinth, Greece, comprising skeletal material from Mycenaean, Geometric and Archaic phases, c.1650-500 BCE. Osteological evidence of demography, life quality, possible genetic affiliation and mortuary practice will be integrated with historical and archaeological data, as well as social theory, to analyse the dynamic negotiation of personal, social and political identities over a period of sweeping socio-political change, including the development of the Corinthian polis (city-state) c.750-700 BCE.
