Development of new electrochemically-primed photoredox catalysts

Electrochemically-primed photoredox catalysis is a recently developed approach to generating high potential single electron oxidants. The selective excitation of the electrochemically generated radical cation leads to the high potential mediators that can engage in single electron transfer processes. This project will deliver a new family of catalysts that will be applied to a selection of difficult or novel C-H activation and functionalisation processes. The reactions developed will be applicable to the synthesis of complex molecules, for example in the pharmaceutical or agrochemical industries. The project fits into the areas of Synthetic organic chemistry and Catalysis, and will deliver new methodologies to the molecules that improve the quality of life for citizens of the UK and the rest of the world.
