My PhD aims to recover a set of artistic methodologies tied to the community arts movement, through an original, critical history of artists and art centres that operated during the 1980s in East London- a golden era and national centre of such activity.This research will inform a series of films developed with young people in Tower Hamlets and Hackney, in which we will attempt to collectively articulate systems of inequality, depict the unfolding effects of the coronavirus crisis on youth culture in marginalised communities, and develop new models of participatory artistic practice.
