Women's artistic responses produced during incarceration (1939-45) and after liberation.Women's Holocaust art is surprisingly under-researched. Important gaps inknowledge remain, alongside the need for rigorous examination and critique ofexisting typologies.My research will provide pioneering new analysis and comparison of the artworkscreated by women during the Holocaust and after liberation. It will investigategendered representation through a new lens with specific focus on the role of artin processing trauma and transition.Unprecedentedly, it will analyse points of transition for these women, therelationship of their artwork to their testimonies (including the role of idealisedtestimonies) and their art in relation to gendered memory processing andtrauma.
