Nationalism, Netizenship, and History in Nigeria

My research explores how narratives of nationalism are debated and constructed both offline and online in Nigeria and the Nigerian diaspora. I will explore the long history of how non-state actors have used alternative narratives of history in contrast to academics and state narratives. I am interested in how public history, commemoration, and social media such as Twitter/X and Facebook allow ordinary Nigerians to intervene with their own histories of Nigerian nationalism and secessionist movements.
