Novel devices have been recently demonstrated with incorporated low dimensional materials. Conventional fabrication of these devices remains challenging, especially of flexible and biocompatible substrates. Inkjet printing could offer promising solution for manufacturing of these devices with multiple complementary functionalities, such as temperature and pressure sensing, controlled drug release, etc. In our recent studies we developed a model explaining charge transport in inkjet deposited 0D and 2D materials [Nat. Commun. Mater. 2, 47 (2021); Advanced Functional Materials 31, 2007478 (2021)]. This project will develop the deposition of functional low dimensional materials on flexible substrates and their integration into circuits. Potential to incorporate polymers with embedded drugs will be also explored with potential for development of multifunctional sensing circuits for temperature, pressure and drug release sensing. This project will be the first focused project in this area and will pave the way for new strand of research within the group.
