Exploring the uptake and provision of Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) among 'vulnerable' groups: a mixed-methods study

Kara developed the broad project brief and aligned this with her own interests, namely, around race and reproduction. Kara will carry out a project on long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) use among Black women in Wales. She will begin with a systematic review followed by mixed-methods; first, a quantitative analysis which examines the differences of LARC use between primary care settings and sexual health clinics; second, a qualitative analysis (via interviews) looking at Black women's experiences when trying to access contraceptive care. Kara wants to use the qualitative data to help make sense of the quantitative data. Kara was able to convey a strong comprehension of the possible ethical issues (e.g. 'vulnerable' participants; sensitive discussion points). We believe that Kara will carry out an ethically-sound project (and in a safe manner). We were also convinced, more than any other candidate, by her consideration and conceptualisation of 'vulnerability' within the proposed study.
