Revisiting the Anti-caste Movement in Post-colonial Karnataka: Chronicling the Dalit Sangharsha Samithi

The transition of India from colonial to nation-state began with its independence in 1947, giving rise to democratic India and ending the nationalist movement, which superseded all other movements in colonial India. With the emergence of the 'state', various other movements have existed since colonial times, aside from the nationalist movement taking up new forms. An instance of this is the anti-caste movement. From the early 1970s onwards, the emergence of the Dalit Panthers of Maharashtra created a new wave, giving rise to movement in many states across India; Karnataka was one.
