英文摘要
The plasma surface in magnetic confinement fusion is critical to the success of the concept. The formation of transport barriers in this region is dependent on many parameters andboundary conditions. Among these, the long-term average plasma exhaust and the consequentinteractions between the plasma and solid materials put substantial constraints on the safeoperation of fusion devices and can influence the physics of the confined region. The couplingof the cold unconfined plasma (scrape-off layer, SOL) to the hot core is thus poorly understood. This project is part of a broader programme to understand this coupling and it is aimed ataddressing the physical mechanisms connecting the SOL boundary conditions to the confined plasma. There are three main objectives:1) Improve the estimation of critical parameters in a statistical description of the SOL.2) Quantify velocity distributions with emphasis on shear in both simulation and experiment,as these can significantly impact heat and mass transport and seed emergent flows in the edge.3) Build on simplified model using stochastic description and couple to parallel dynamicssimulation to unravel the source of magnetic geometry dependence of flow conditions.
