This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The Computer Network Support Facility, directed by Dr. Bradley R. Jones, serves researchers, students, technicians and administrative staff in the Pacific Biosciences Research Center (PBRC), in all of the RCMI-related activities, and in many of the biomedical programs of the John A. Burns School of Medicine. With the institutional support of PBRC and significant support from the RCMI program, the CNSF provides servers and system administration, networking, desktop support, video conferencing, and presentation and conference services. The Facility administers seven UNIX servers, two Windows servers, two Linux servers and 15 network-attached storage devices with a total capacity of over 6 Terabytes for web-hosting, web applications, email, data storage, and secure database services. The CNSF also is responsible for the design and operation of viable local area networks in both on-campus and off-campus research locations and for their connection to the larger University of Hawaii network. Desktop services are a large part of the workload, and the Facility staff provides specifications and purchasing expertise, installation of operating systems and application software, troubleshooting, and user training.
