Checkpoint Charlie: The Changing Values of a Cold War Heritage Icon

Building upon previous scholarship on Cold War Berlin by Professor John Schofield from the University of York and Professor Axel Klausmeier from the Stiftung Berliner Mauer, this cooperative dissertation project will help create guidelines for the management of the Cold War cultural heritage site Checkpoint Charlie by evaluating the values attached to the site throughout the decades and working with previously unresearched archival material and new data generated from opinion surveys and interviews. The project also holds the potential to inform the future management of other contested (Cold War) cultural heritage sites.
