The main purpose of this project is to answer key questions about emergent non-equilibrium (NEQ) phenomena ofmany-body quantum systems, in particular the many-body localised (MBL) phase. This will be achieved by designingand constructing a new generation of cold-atom apparatus that produces 2D quantum gases in point-like disorderedpotentials with near-arbitrary control of the imposed disorder. Recent theoretical and experimentalwork has identified a novel localised state of interacting many-body systems at finite temperatures called the MBL.The research interest in MBL arises because it can prevent thermalisation even in interacting many-body systems. With theexperimental method based on matter-wave interferometry that we have developed in recent years, we will observenovel dynamical phenomena in 2D MBL systems.
