The aim of this project is to implement hand-crafted algorithms and data-driven machine learning/AI-based computing techniques to significantly ease and refine the characterisation and interpretation of real-time signals from highly dynamic processes. One focus idea would be to introduce a complementary optical in-operando measurement capability for the Scanning Electron Microscope via coupling in a photonic crystal fibre or new range of smart local shower head opportunities and prototype platform with in-situ feedback loops that can be automated. This new operando platform can then be used to explore the growth of atomically thin device materials (such as 2D layers, nanotubes and nanowires) as well as collaborate on many applications and projects including optoelectronics, THz metamaterials, spintronics and biosensors, reactor manufacturers and metrology companies.
