Women are underrepresented in many areas of society, including the sports industry where they are often 'othered'. The ambition of this research is to undertake a longitudinal analysis of the UK sports media, assessing the amount of representation men and women are afforded, and using a critical discourse analysis to evaluate the quality of their portrayal. The findings will be used to produce a style guide to be distributed to sports media and educational institutions. This will highlight the importance of language use in levelling the playing field for women in sport, in the number, and visibility of, positive female role models.
