英文摘要
The aim of the project is to understand the effect of the surface treatment, alloy composition and microstructure, and use of local curing methods on metal-to-metal adhesive bond strength and durability.Work at Loughborough University will focus on characterisation of the alloy microstructure and surfaces using advanced techniques and the development of suitable and novel surface pre-treatments to provide optimised bonding. Both initial adhesion levels and durability experiments will be carried out using alloys and adhesives downselected from the available literature and studies at Loughborough. The work will include the following:1. Surface and near-surface comparison of Constellium's Cu-containing alloys with Cu-free/low-Cu commercially available 6xxx alloys (6008, 6060, 6082) including the determination of the effect of alloy microstructure and surface condition before and after prebond processing;2. Adhesive downselection that link the adhesive selection to the type of application, e.g. load path and required joint strength vs. other requirements such as application and cost;3. Consideration of the local joint curing strategy, and;4. Development of a suitable joint test strategy.
