Electric and hybrid electric propulsion is a critical development in the drive towards netzero aviation. The key objective of the project is to develop new numerical and computational tools for analysing designing of novel electric propulsion concepts. In particular the project aims to model the electromagnetic and thermomechanical effects of the designs of the high power density electric motors. The project will entail using open source software packages of the Finite element method to model such effects and aim to ensure scalability through the use of high performance parallel computing for highly complicated engineering design.Currently, the gaps in knowledge are the development of novel algorithms for the electromagnetic and thermomechanical coupling and the integration of parallel computing.
