Investigating the Impact of Farmer Producer Organisations on Improving Productivity, Income and Livelihoods of Small & Marginal Farmers in Rural India

FPOs are cooperative formed by small farmers to gather resources andboost investment and share benefits among members. FPOs couldbecome one of the most important institutions to protect small farmerrights, increase productivity and improve income. However, they failed todeliver due to lack of awareness and education in rural communities, socialinequality, and high dependency.This project will investigate the main challenges faced by small farmers,and will seek to understand the factors influencing participation of smalland marginal farmers in FPOs. The project will also identify strategies andpolicies to improve the performance of FPOs. As such, the research is fullyaligned with the aims of the WRDTP Sustainable Growth, Management,and Economic Productivity pathway
