My research explores how the ethnic identity of the Korean diaspora in Cuba has changed with each generation during the past century. Employing a 'Quadrangular Identity Formation Model', I will chart the process of diasporisation alongside sociopolitical transformations in Cuba (hostland) and the Korean Peninsula (homeland). By elucidating how each historical period is reflected in their identity and their connection to homeland and hostland, this study will provide new insight into the Korean-Cuban diaspora, the role of the two Koreas as a divided homeland in identity formation, and the significance of this diaspora in Cuba-Korean relations.
