The research themes at the CDT directly match my own research interests, providing the ideal place for me to make a contribution to the development of life-saving technologies. My experience developing ionacoustic detectors has provided me with first-hand experience of the excitement that exists at the forefront of emerging imaging techniques. Knowing that the technology you are developing has the potential to help someone in a way not before possible instills in you an unparalleled sense of purpose. Theneed for affordable imaging is clear: health inequality is a slow-burning crisis impacting billions. Whether it is cheaper equipment or technologies requiring less expertise for operation, we necessitate innovative research to realise the goal of health care equity for all. Outside of academics, I have been an active student representative whilst at university. At present, I hold the elected role of the Royal College of Science Union Vice President Welfare, supervising a team of 25 student representatives. I intend to draw on and strengthen my leadership experience in the next stage of my education by seeking out leadership roles in my academic environment. The CDT's structure that fosters the opportunity for collaboration and discussion with both my peers and world-leading researchers. I look forward to the sense of community fostered by the CDT's structure.
