Epistemic Justice in Online Spaces: using structural features of the internet to counter epistemic threat.

Epistemic injustice occurs when my capacity as a knowing agent is undermined because of my social identity. Current philosophical literature suggests the internet primarily facilitates poor epistemic practices (e.g. online echo chambers) and associated epistemic injustice. However, evidence suggests the internet also carries epistemic advantages - e.g. offering a platform for marginalised voices. To date, no investigation has been carried into how the internet might successfully facilitate epistemic justice. Through a systematic analysis of structural features of the internet, this study will show how the internet has and can be used as an effective tool for fostering epistemic justice
