Algebraic Modelling of Molecular Interactions in Biological Cells - to use methods from the theoryof computing and from pure mathematics to model the interactions between molecules that, taken as a whole, constituteliving systems. In particular, the first goal will be to expand on past research in this area by developing a new algebraicmodel of these interactions that benefits from consideration of the links between lambda calculus (from the theory ofcomputing) and category theory (from pure mathematics). If this is successful, the second goal will be the computationalimplementation of this model to simulate molecular interactions both within and outwith biological cells, with an aimto answer questions about how living systems can bootstrap themselves into existence from the background noise ofrandomly interacting molecules
