This PhD studentship project in collaboration with Airbus. It aims to identify novel dynamic modelling techniques that improve aircraft acceleration response predictions seen during Airbus' dynamic landing simulations for civil aeroplanes when validated against flight test measurements. The project also includes the potential for further demonstration through experimental testing. Airbus, the industrial sponsor for the iCASE studentship, recognises the need to improve the predictions to assist in better understanding potential new structural configurations in the design space of sustainable aircraft that might need to accommodate large concentrated mass (e.g. Hydrogen tanks, fuel cells or batteries) in the future.The PhD will involve a combination of analytical, numerical and experimental work possibly requiring further academic training provided by taught technical modules given by the ISVR and the School of Engineering.The mix of a real physical engineering problem requiring solutions, and the provision of industrial input, feedback and support should have sufficient novelty, research content and industrial application in the field of structural dynamics that is transferable to many other applications.
