A STUDY: EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT OF SECOND-GENERATION IMMIGRANTS IN ETHNIC GROUPS IN THE UK

移民总体上对东道国的国内生产总值增长有积极影响，因为高技能移民可以提高该国人力资本的总存量，从而促进创新和生产力增长。另一方面，移民对土生土长的人的就业和工资的影响仍然是公共辩论中的核心问题。在过去的二十年里，出现了一种新兴的研究重点，即移民一代。第一代移民的净财政影响平均为负，而第二代移民的教育程度和收入高于他们的父母。研究表明，父母教育、家庭收入、种族认同、语言口语和流利程度以及学校质量等多个影响因素对第二代移民的教育成就有影响。然而，到目前为止，关于第二代移民和不同种族的文献相对较少。本研究旨在分析不同种族的第二代移民与英国本土人在教育程度和收入方面的差距，并进一步揭示这些差距背后的主导因素。

Immigration in general has a positive impact on the GDP growth of a host country as the highly skilled migrants canimprove the total stock of human capital of the country, thus contribute to innovation and productivity growth. Onthe other hand, the impact of immigration on the employment and wages of the native-born remains a coreconcern in the public debates.Over last two decades, there is an emerging research focus on immigrant generation. While the first-generationimmigrants observed having had an averagely negative net fiscal impact, the second-generation immigrants havecontributed positively because of their higher educational attainment level and earnings than that of their parents.Research has shown that a number of influential factors, including parental education, household income, ethnicidentity, language spoken and fluency, and school quality etc have impact on the educational attainment of thesecond-generation immigrants. To date, however, literature concerning the second-generation immigrants anddifferent ethnic groups is comparatively scarce.This proposed research aims to analyse the gaps of education attainment and earning between secondgenerationimmigrants of different ethnic groups and natives in the UK, and further to reveal what the dominantfactors are behind them.
