The increasingly multicultural nature of C21st German society has led to a fresh examination of Germany's colonial past, a fast-growing body of literary representations of German colonialism and often controversial public debates regarding the public history of the imperial era (1871-1918). By analysing the multifaceted literary representations of colonialism that have been published since 2010-five years before Germany's decision to welcome one million refugees from Syria-my research seeks to understand how contemporary German conceptualisations of the German Empire continue to evolve to meet the demands of the postcolonial age.
