This project will explore new concepts in astrocomb creation, stabilization and metrology using a Ti:sapphire-based optical frequency comb. Key targets include:the development of DMD-mirror based schemes for manipulating astrocombs, and isolating / measuring a single comb modes for the purpose of calibrating an astronomical spectrograph, the evaluation of passive Fabry-Perot filter cavities, including the use of thermally-steered bonded Fabry-Perot cavities to filter a smaller-mode-spacing comb. Techniques including Pound-Drever Hall locking may be used to ensure long-term locking. the evaluation of cw lasers for cavity locking and their integration into a Ti:sapphire comb. the extension of these techniques to other wavelengths, for example using OPO frequency conversion. This work forms part of a wider effort in the Heriot-Watt group to develop an astrocomb for the ELT telescope. Some parts of the work programme may therefore at times be conducted collaboratively with other members of the research group.
