New Kinship Practices of Lesbians in Mainland China

本研究运用批判性民族志、女权主义家庭理论和孔令辉的跨国酷儿社会学，调查大陆女同性恋父母中国已经或计划使用辅助生殖技术(ART)共同生孩子的经历。与两个为女同性恋者提供艺术咨询的非政府组织(Relax LGBT Center和彩虹婴儿)的客户和工作人员接触，我将探讨生殖决策、代际互动和育儿实践。本研究将围绕三个研究问题展开：当代中国中获得助孕的女同性恋者是如何实践亲属关系的？与大家庭和友情网络的关系如何影响他们的生育决定？这种新的做法和西方的艺术观点有什么相似之处和不同之处？我将扩展亲属关系研究，并帮助消除生殖技术、女同性恋和家庭社会学中的西方视角。

This study utilises critical ethnography, feminist family theory and Kong's transnational queer sociology toinvestigate the experience of lesbian parent families in mainland China who have used or plan to use AssistedReproductive Technology (ART) to have children together. Engaging with clients and staff at two NGOs thatprovide ART counselling to lesbians (Relax LGBT Center and Rainbow Babies), I will explore reproductive decisionmaking,intergenerational interactions and parenting practices. The study will focus on three research questions:How do lesbians accessing assisted conception practise kinship in contemporary China? How do relations withextended family and friendship networks shape their fertility decisions? What are the similarities and differencesbetween this new practice and Western perspectives on ART? I will extend kinship studies and help to de-centreWestern-perspectives in the sociology of reproductive technology, lesbianism and the family.
