英文摘要
My proposed research aims to supplement existing sparse economics researchon the "social" element of the climate-nature-social nexus and investigate thedistributional and equity issues of current and future supply and demand formarine and coastal biodiversity and ecosystem servicesprovided by natural capital and how they affect the effectiveness of biodiversityinterventions. That is, who benefits and loses from ecosystem services (i.e.nature's supply), what is the level of committed and future public and privateinvestment in nature required to reverse biodiversity loss(i.e. demand for nature), and how the distribution of beneficiaries might affectthe effectiveness of biodiversity interventions and vice versa, with a strongemphasis put on equity issues. The analysis will focus on the coastal and marine UK habitats and, as aminimum, will include ecosystem services identified as most valuable to humanwellbeing, such as recreation, food provisioning and carbon sequestration.Thestudy will address four key gaps in the existing evidence base: 1) limitedassessment of distribution of beneficiaries of marine and coastal ecosystemservices 2) lack of complexity of existing distributional analyses 3) (marine)biodiversity remaining peripheral to economic systemsand 4) insufficient account of biodiversity's societal value in economicsresearch.Tentatively, I expect that the research will assess the types of economic agentsincurring marine and coastal ecosystem benefits in their full complexity andimprove future considerations of redistribution of marine ecosystem servicesand biodiversity benefits leading to a further inclusion and just nature transition.
