This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The primary objectives of this trial is to estimate the overall survival rate associated with this combined regimen in treating adult patients wit11 recurrent glioblastoma multiforme. The secondary objectives are to assess and estimate toxicities, tumor response rate, 6 month progression free survival & to describe the pharrnacokinetics of this route of administration. In the United States 35,000 primary brain tumors are diagnosed each year. Since more than 50% of primary brain tumors are malignant gliomas, upwards of 18,000 new cases of glioblastorna and anaplastic astrocytoma can be expected to occur yearly. Although brain tumors are uncommon in comparison with other cancers such as breast or lung cancer, they exact a tremendous toll upon patients, spouses and families because of the severe neurologic disability they produce.
