LINK-FUNCTIONALIZED POLYMERS VIA ROMP FOR STUDYING MECHANOCHEMISTRY

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Our project researches stress-induced reactions by incorporating a single mechanically responsive unit into the center of a polymer backbone to produce a link-functionalized polymer. The synthesis of these link-functionalized polymers via ROMP is currently being investigated. The initial link being examined is an anthracene unit. Fluorescence depolarization is being used to determine if the anthracene link is in the center of the polymer chain.
