英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Serum markers of inflammation such as C-reactive protein have been identified as predictors of peripheral arterial disease. With emerging evidence associating inflammatory markers with vascular disease, coupled with the relative paucity of data regarding non-coronary, and particularly asymptomatic disease, this study is designed to assess the presence of elevated serum markers of inflammation in the setting of asymptomatic carotid artery disease. This will lay the groundwork for future longitudinal studies to assess the utility of serum markers to identify those patients that may be at risk to experience asymptomatic progression of disease.
