FAT DISTRIBUTION IN CHILDREN OF NORMAL WOMEN AND WOMEN WITH GESTATIONAL DIABETES

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This proposal will determine the maternal and perinatal factors related to childhood obesity and related sequela in the offspring of women with normal glucose tolerance (NGT) and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Longitudinal changes in body composition in infants of women with normal glucose tolerance and gestational diabetes will be evaluated at 1 year and at ages 6-10. Glucose tolerance will be evaluated in these children, age 6-10 years, using a glucose tolerance test. Additional tests obtained include a lipid profile, body composition by DEXA and genetic analysis.
