This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The goal of this project is to demonstrate the feasibility of various training interventions that have been developed through collaborative efforts with the three interdisciplinary groups (i.e., bioinformatics/computer science; biological/behavioral science; and engineering/behavioral science) and informed by the principles associated with the learning of skilled actions. Study 1 represents the human clinical test-bed for the development of new directions in stroke neurorehabilitation encompassed by this Exploratory Center for Interdisciplinary Research. A corollary aim of Study 1is to characterize the training-induced functional brain activation changes using our repeated measures fMRI design through three hand dexterity tasks--power grasp, precision grasp, and sequential finger tapping.
