c. Biostatistics. A number of investigators expressed the need for biostatistical support in their work. Informatics and biostatistics are growing in importance for the management and analysis of large datasets, and for appropriate study design. The large amount of HIV sequence data generated by some proj ects also can require the analytical assistance of a biostatistician. However, it was noted that biostatistical support is available through a number of avenues, including the formal statistical centers of the AIDS clinical trials groups, and the GCRC biostatistician. Therefore, it was decided to provide support for limited initial consultation with a biostatistician for the purposes of study design. For now, investigators will be required to make their own arrangements with statisticians in the Department of Preventive Medicine & Biometrics for more extensive needs related to data analysis. Support for biostatistical services may be increased if there is sufficient demand by a diverse group of investigators, subject to availability of CFAR resources.
