英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
Obesity is becoming a significant problem in children. One in six American children is overweight. In Los Angeles County, the problem is even worse with nearly one in three children being overweight. Overweight children tend to become overweight adults. There are many medical problems associated with being overweight. Examples include high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and breathing problems. Health Eating and Lifestyle Project (HELP) is a multicenter pediatric weight management program involving the following institutions: Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, California Hospital Medical Center, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Huntington Memorial Hospital, and the National Health Foundation. The purpose of this project is to offer a treatment project to families of overweight children. The treatment of overweight children involves the entire family and includes making health eating choices and being physically active.
