英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
We propose a pilot study of long term brain development, neuroendocrine function and cytokines in former Itrauterine Growth Restricted (IUGR) infants who and are now 7-9 years of age. The aims are (1) first identify the regions of the brain most affected by chronic intrauterine stress and nutritional deprivation leading to IUGR through this pilot study so that we subsequently perform targeted prospective investigations in the newly born (IUGR) infant during development; and (2) define growth patterns in IUGR infants (linear, weight, and velocity of catch-up) and their association with brain (memory), inflammatory (IL-6 and TNF) growth (IGF) cytokines, and neuroendocrine and metabolic (leptin/fat, insulin/glucose, and cortisol/stress) function later in life.
