INVESTIGATION OF BONE MINERAL DENSITY IN CHILDREN INFECTED WITH HUMAN IMMUNODEFS

To determine the prevalence and severity of bone mineral density loss in HIV infected children compared to healthy, seronegative, age-matched controls as determined by QCT and DXA. 2. To evaluate the relationship of bone mineral density to certain biological factors, including viral load, CD4 counts, and specific markers of bone formation and resorption in HIV-infected children 3. To evaluate the association between class of antiretroviral treatment, including regimen and duration, to bone mineral density changes in HIV-infected children. 4. To describe the relationship between bone mineral density loss and incidence of lipodystrophy in this patient population.
