The term "nonalcoholic steatohepatitis "(NASH)" was used to describe the initial observation of patients with conditions produced by a disease found in obese, diabetic women with no extreme alcohol intake. The liver tissue when looked under the microscope, (histology) was similar to alcoholic hepatitis. NASH is a common disease and can have serious clinical outcomes such as liver cirrhosis with its complications that are associated with this liver condition.
