This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This is a metabolic substudy to the KEEPS study (Kronos Extended Estrogen Progesterone Study) in early post menopausal women randomized to transdermal estrogen, oral estrogen/oral progesterone or matching placebo. Outcome variables include the effects of estrogen replacement on insulin secretion, hepatic and peripheral insulin sensitivity as measured by the mixed meal tolerance test quintuple tracer methodology of carbohydrate metabolism, hepatic plasma flow and insulin secretion rates.
