This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
The Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center in collaboration with Duke Center for In Vivo Microscopy, will implement end-to-end Internet2 (I2)-based testbed for analysis, visualization, and remote storage of 4D datasets. The CIVM will evaluate utility of implementation for improving research into gene expression effects on mouse embryo development. The large data sizes used in 4D MRM studies coupled with the need to work with multiple/changing data sets from live animals, using highly interactive analysis and visualization, guaranteed fault tolerant operation, user authentication, and security-present challenging demands, which require optimized end-to-end implementation, These characteristics parallel anticipated requirements of future health care and disaster response scenarios. Implementation strategies will apply to future needs and to time series MRI in telemedicine and remote diagnosis. Interactive computation with final graphic rendering is offloaded to efficient client program for user and data analysis interface with facilities for arbitrary plane visualization, registration, user-initiated segmentation, measurement and comparison operations. A 4D analysis/ visualization system extends and retargets technical approach taken in previous work for networked navigation of static 3D volumetric datasets.
