A. OBJECTIVE The objective of the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) Fragile X Research Center Administrative Core is to direct and coordinate the activities of the Baylor-Emory Fragile X Center in a manner which will meet the overall objectives of the Center, including: 1. To improve animal models of Fragile X syndrome, to use animal models to understand the developmental requirements for FMR1 and to better define in vivo assays amenable to the assessment of treatments. 2. To identify and characterize small molecules capable of modifying effects of Fmr1 mutations in model organisms. 3. To define the effects of expressed, premutation-sized CGG repeats in humans. 4. To provide for further collaborative interactions among Baylor and Emory researchers with common interests and commitment to research in Fragile X syndrome. The Administrative Core will continue to meet these objectives through the administration of funds awarded to the Fragile X Center, and through the coordination of investigator and advisor interactions. It will also provide effective integration of the Fragile X Center with the parent BCM Mental Retardation Developmental Disabilities Research Center (MRDDRC).
