This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
The primary objective if this study is to evaluate and assess the tolerability, side effect profile, and rate of remission with the medication combination Venlafaxine XR and Aripiprazole in patients diagnosed with MDD. In all, 250 adult subjects with MDD, between the ages of 18 and 65, may be screened for participation total. Not all subjects screened will be eligible or interested in this study. Enrollment will be competitive. We expect to enroll a total of 50 subjects, no more than 25 at any Regional Center. At this site we hope to enroll 25 subjects. The study enrollment period will last for two or three months and patients will remain in treatment for 12 weeks for an active study lenght of 5-6 months.
