This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
FRAM 2 is an NIH-sponsored study that has 3 goals:
to learn whether HIV-infected patients have abnormalities in their blood vessels that could eventually lead to heart attack or stroke
to study how fat is distributed in their bodies, and
to learn how their bodies handle fat and sugars.
HIV-infected individuals who participated in FRAM 1 were contacted to determine if they were eligible and interested in the two four-house visits of FRAM 2. At these two visits, participants would have a Fat Tolerance Test, a Glucose Tolerance Test, a carotid ultrasound, a DEXA scan, and an MRI. For each of these 5 procedures, participants would receive $40 (up to a total of $200). Additionally, these visits include baseline lab draw, physical exam (visual inspection), anthropometry, self-administered questionnaires, and interviewer-administered forms. When these 2 visits had been completed, these participants' medical records are abstracted back to 01 January 2000 for their medications, weight history, T-cell and viral load, and medical history.
If patients were deemed lost to follow-up or were deceased or refused, an abbreviated chart review will be conducted.
