Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) are secreted by the heart in response to increased cardiac wall stress. Overweight and obese individuals have substantially lower plasma natriurietic peptide levels than lean individuals. Our study aims to determine if the natriuretic peptide, echo, and metabolic responses to saline infusion differ between lean individuals, obese individuals before, and obese individuals after weight loss from gastric bypass surgery.
