THE EFFECTS OF AGE, GENDER, AND RACE ON THE METABOLISM OF ANTIEPILEPTIC DRUGS

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. This study seeks to characterize the effects of advancing age, gender, and race on carbamazepine (CBZ) pharmacokinetics and metabolism utilizing an IV dose of a stable-labeled CBZ isotope. This study will also seek to determine if subjects homozygous or heterozygous for the CYP3A5*1 allele have an increased CBZ clearance and a faster elimination half-life.
