Project Summary/Abstract
Ms. Victoria Medvedeva is an undergraduate student at the University of Utah. She is currently earning
her B.S. in Biochemistry (with Honors) and expects to graduate in December of 2023. Ms. Medvedeva’s short-
term goal is to be admitted to a PhD graduate program in Chemical Biology, and her long-term goal is to have a
career in academia performing research related to biomedicine. Ms. Medvedeva has been working as an
undergraduate researcher in the Puri Lab at the University of Utah since August of 2021. Through this summer
undergraduate research experience, Ms. Medvedeva will perform research in the Puri Lab related to determining
the biosynthesis of the novel natural product tundrenone, which is made by a methane-oxidizing bacterium. This
work is directly related to the subject of the parent grant (R35GM147018-01; Methylotrophs: underexplored
bacteria for discovering novel natural products and biochemistry). Ms. Medvedeva will also participate in
structured undergraduate summer programs on campus. Together, this experience will help her receive the
additional technical, operational, and professional training she needs to achieve her short- and long-term goals.
