R01GM146386 – Supplement for Summer Undergraduate Researcher – Project Summary This supplement project is to support the research training and professional development for an undergraduate researcher. The student (from University of Minnesota) will work across the parent grant principal investigator's laboratory and the collaborator's laboratory, to embed their training in both environments. This should enhance both the candidate's training experience and the project's progress by explicitly and directly linking the experimental planning and execution between the two labs, one basic science and one more translationally connected. In this supplement project, the student will prepare samples under varying conditions in the L. Parker lab, testing different peptide concentrations and incubation times in two cell lines. These samples and additional peptides (both unlabeled peptides and stable isotope labeled standards) will be brought to the S. Parker lab at Cedars Sinai. The candidate will learn the sample processing and preparation for proteomics, targeted parallel reaction monitoring (PRM) analysis both from the instrumentation side and the data analysis side, and also have opportunities to enhance professional development through presenting their project to the lab groups, and interact with scientists and physicians in the highly dynamic, cutting-edge translational setting at Cedars Sinai Medical Center.
