Here is the summary of our research activities 1. Continuing Research Projects A. Syndemic Profiles of Acculturation and Biomarkers of Health (NHANES) Goal: Identify US Hispanic/Latino Profiles of Acculturation Methods: Latent Class/Latent Transition Analysis Status: (i) One manuscript is under review on Acculturation and telomere length (ii) In the early phase to examine Effects of health status and health behavior on mental health among immigrants. B. US South Asian Profiles of Acculturation Collaborations with Dr. Alka Kanaya, University of California San Francisco and Dr. Alexandra Shield, Harvard University Goals: (1) Acculturation and cardiometabolic risk, (2) Association between physical distance, social network and health decision making Methods: Latent Class/Latent Transition Analysis and Network Analysis Status: (i) Acculturation and syndemic cardiometabolic risk on telomere length among South Asians in the US Manuscript almost ready for submission. (ii) Impact of social interaction and organization affiliation on health decision making - Analysis in progress C. Examining Cancer Risk Profiles and Regional Variations Goals: (1) Assess SEER 9 cancer registry survivorship profile, (2) Examine Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) cancer registry surgical treatment delay profiles, (3) Understand regional and demographic variations of lung cancer incidence, (4) Assess network analysis of demographic, and socioeconomic risk factors for breast cancer family history (The Sister Study) Collaboration with Drs. Dale Sandler and Katie OBrien, NIH/NIEHS. Methods: Latent Class/Latent Transition Analysis and Network Analysis, & Geographic Information System Status: (i) SEER 9 Registry - Variations in colorectal cancer survivorship Manuscript under review; (ii) Geographic distribution and survivorship over time, 1975-2016 Analysis phase; (iii) TDH Two manuscripts are with TDH for review and approval for submission. Sister Study Status: Early phase of the analysis. Family history of breast cancer effect on health behaviors. 2. Data Acquisition A. Ten Years GfK MRIs Survey of the American Consumer. We have acquired the data and currently downloading it. Upon completion, we will perform harmonization across parents, teens and kids to begin various research analyses. Goal: To provide a better understanding on the geographical patterns of consumer demographics, lifestyles, attitudes and needs which will aid in the development of tailored intervention to meet the needs of each racial/ethnic group and geography. Some of the main research topics for consideration include: (i) Geographical variations in consumption patterns and hotpot analysis across the United States (e.g. stratified by African American, White, Latinos, US born vs foreign born, parents vs children), (ii) Demographic and lifestyle analysis, (iii) Access and how health seeking behavior change over time by place, race, socioeconomic status, and family structure, (iv) Financial burden and health behaviors (e.g. cancer, diabetes, trauma, depressive symptoms, and other comorbidities as well as sleep duration/quality influence on health outcomes), (v), Acculturation and health, (vi) Develop a multi-cohort predictive system dynamics qualitative and computer simulation model of consumer behavior, health and identification to leverage place(s) for intervention. Status: Downloading data to secure NIH storage site. 3. New Research Projects A. The Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Initiatives Goal: To understand the life experiences and health of participants during COVID-19 given the disruption of daily life and other services Methods: Qualitative interview and Survey Status: Early Stage
