P1057 - A study of unusual periodic fluctuations in radio pulsars

Pulsars are peculiar objects. Some suddenly brighten up for seconds, minutes or much longer. These phenomena are considered to be random processes in most cases. However, some pulsars brighten periodically. We do not know why, and we do not know why only some pulsars do this. The purpose of this proposal is to monitor pulsars which brighten up periodically bright in order to determine what makes these particular pulsars special. Lots of theoretical models try to explain these phenomena and we will use these observations to constrain these models.
